To the tune of Love Story by Taylor Swift...
We were both young when we enlisted Our folks stayed strong But their eyes got misted Standing there When our plane took off into the air. We deployed Cause the country is at war The ramp comes down and I go through the door Staying low, little did I know That you were Four Five Romeo dropping star shells And my call sign was Whiskey Seven Juliet And I was wounded on the staircase...

The Answers Are Obvious
Notice that the answers to the suggestions in the girl’s questions are the suggestions in the guy’s questions and vice-versa.  Who said computers aren’t intelligent?

Batter Blaster
In the Roman province of Judea, in the Year of our Lord the Sixty Sixth, the local people began a tax revolt that lasted for six long years and included the destruction of Jerusalem, the mass suicide of the defenders at the fortress of Masada, and the Diaspora of the Jewish people. In that perilous age, there often was no time to prepare a normal breakfast and the population was forced to use...

Assignment AOL - The mismatched plates
According to Gawker “Seed, the AOL media content robot, uses it’s mad robot brain to generate story ideas based on what you, yes you, have been searching for on the internet, and then it asks you, yes you, to write articles based on these “assignments” and then pays money for them, but maybe not to you. It’s really an evil plot to get cheap content to amuse the...

The Navy’s Blue Angels are in town this weekend for the Seafair festival.  The sound made by a low pass of these FA-18 Hornets is spectacular.  If you live in a foreign country and you hear this sound, it almost certainly means that the United States is interested in changing your policy.

I first heard this story in elementary school when our teacher read it aloud to us.  I have never forgotten it. On Memorial Day, as you BBQ your burgers and chicken, drink your drinks and chat with your friends and family, give a moment and a prayer for all those who faithfully serve the United States and especially those who gave all they had, and all they ever will have, to her defense. THE MAN...

The air was thick with dust and the spring sun shone brightly upon the streets of Raleigh, water vapor wafting up in visible swirls of mist.  It looked like a war zone.  The streets were clogged with the discarded remnants of both campaigns and a few of the mop-up crews were starting to make their way among the day’s carnage.  Survivors and staff alike were slowly making their way out; some headed...

The scientists gathered around the conference table in a secret laboratory deep beneath the streets of Manhattan; an abandoned power station that once provided emergency backup electricity to the financial district during the war.  They were concerned because they had detected an anomaly in the prevailing style that transcended the societal collective and seemed to accelerate the anomie that had...

I remember back on April 1, 1981, the day my friend John McCain retired from the Navy.  It was about a year after he’d married Cindy Lou, who we always used to call Cindy Lou Who from that whole Grinch fiasco back in the 60’s, and while we always assumed John would take up some cushy job with his father-in-law’s beer company, we convinced him that if he was to become credible as a businessman it...

Barack got the idea to dress up like Whitney...
I remember back at Harvard Law in 1990 where Barack and I were putting the finishing touches on the latest Law Review up on the shabby-but-venerable second floor of Gannett House. Back in those days, you didn’t need to shiver outside to have a cigarette and I could see the thin tendrils of smoke curl up around his face as he took another drag. Normally, he’d just go back to his...

Hillary Clinton emerged from the jump door and...
I remember back in 1978 when I was in Airborne School at Ft. Benning. We were on our night jump, the last before we would graduate and get our coveted wings. Once again, I was scared to death and just wanted it all to be over. I could smell the acrid sweat from the men in my stick as they waited behind me. Whatever had possessed me to volunteer for this? As a newly minted officer fresh from OCS,...
